My main excuse is that I had to go out of town unexpectedly Thursday to Saturday, but that really only excuses me from two days! The Day 3 exercise was to produce an infographic of some sort. My idea was to make a Venn diagram showing the intersection of socks, lace, and pink yarn in my projects, but I had a jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-45436886283387600962013-04-23T21:41:00.000-05:002013-04-23T21:41:15.206-05:00Day 2: Mascot ProjectFor Day 2, Eskimimi wants us to select a project that "embodies that house/animal." Although she suggests that we might blog about "the journey" to select this pattern, but frankly, since I am of the House of Bee and have already knit not one, but TWO bee-themed projects, I will cheat and talk about those!
The first was the Honeybee Stole, by the incomparable Anne Hanson, which I finished jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-45862993170051208182013-04-22T19:50:00.002-05:002013-04-22T19:50:44.790-05:00Busy as a BeeI have been such a bad blogger of late. I write blog posts in my head all the time, but actually posting them is hard. I think that's because I don't like to have a post without a picture and for some reason (maybe the grey, grey winter weather which still lingers here?), I have had no inclination to take pictures.
Steven posted about Eskimimi's Knitting and Crochet Blog Week, and I jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-4978131270516236122013-02-24T13:52:00.000-06:002013-02-24T13:52:10.333-06:00QuandaryI am not even going to try to explain why I haven't posted since November, because there is no good reason beyond the fact that it's way easier to compose blogposts in one's head than to actually get them written.
So - if I have any readers left, I need your help!

On the other hand, it DOES look better than it did when I pulled it out of the dryer!
As you can tell by the presence of the crochet hook and the stitch marker, this was not immediately after I pulled it out of the dryer -- it was after I had started to lay it out to take jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-87922887436454352122012-07-14T15:34:00.002-05:002012-07-15T18:19:31.357-05:00Oh, Hi!Sorry for the blog silence. Despite the fact that I am knitting a baby blanket for a baby due this week, there really hasn't been much knitting. The non-gender-specific blanket is the Baby Buzzy Bee Blanket. I bought the kit from Knitpicks, because it came with Swish, such a great baby yarn. The pattern itself is a tiny bit problematic. I spent the weekend reading Ann Shayne's new novel, Bowling Avenue. It was wonderful! It's full of great characters -- I identified with almost all of them, even the ones I didn't particularly like--with an equally great story, a flood, and even a little knitting subplot. It's simultaneously funny, sad, and bittersweet. You know, I'm a medical librarian jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-72598764199071622982012-05-08T20:36:00.002-05:002012-05-08T20:36:33.806-05:00This and ThatI wouldn't say I exactly have startitis, but I have started several new projects recently.
Back in March, during the Honey Cowl craze, I cast on for one, using two colors of madelinetosh pashmina -- Betty Draper's Blues (the same color, although different yarn base, that I used for my sister's Saroyan) and Mica. I haven't gotten far on it, but I'm going to a conference soon, so I need somejannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-87367015008145701752012-04-21T12:56:00.000-05:002012-04-21T12:56:50.475-05:00Another finished object!I know -- you are all amazed at this! This one has actually been finished since April 9, but it was a gift so I had to make sure it was received before I posted.
The same day that Simon went to kitty heaven, Home Ec Workshop had their anniversary party/sale. As you have probably figured out, I'm on a real madtosh kick right now, and while I was fondling the tosh dk in Betty jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-5528280806447005762012-04-11T21:41:00.000-05:002012-04-11T21:41:45.106-05:00Imperfect FOAs soon as I saw Jared Flood's Juneberry, I knew I had to make. I knew it had to be red. A while back, I bought 3 skeins of madelinetosh Tosh Vintage in Amber Trinket. Amber Trinket is an interesting color -- if you go through a lot of Ravelry stashes (sorry - link will only work if you are a Rav member. But why aren't you?), you'll see the sometimes it looks red, jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-59439877598805150922012-03-25T14:33:00.001-05:002012-03-25T14:34:36.748-05:00Happy and SadFirst, the Happy:
I can finally share my stealth-knitting project, Wool Leaves. I really love how this turned out!
The yarn is Madelinetosh tosh dk, held doubled. The color is called Calligraphy, and is a gorgeous neutral -- sort of parchment with hints of tan and grey. The blanket is for Bezzie and her new baby girl.* I wanted something kind of girly, without being jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-6671238258720564552012-03-12T20:30:00.000-05:002012-03-12T20:30:51.468-05:00A Couple FOsI spent the last week at my mom's. She's doing really great and I could see her doing better and better daily. I knew she was feeling better on Friday, when I found her in the kitchen, mixing up a batch of cookies. No big deal, she said -- they're bar cookies! Today, she started cardiac rehab and also got to start driving again, so that really makes things more normal for her.

Life has been both boring and hectic. Boring because in winter, there is no way I can get a decent picture of my knitting anywhere in my house, so I feel dumb posting knitting pictures posts without photos. Also, I've finished a major stealth knitting project. Once it's washed, blocked, and mailed away, I'll show y'all some pictures (although jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-12193876878413839152012-01-16T19:38:00.001-06:002012-01-16T19:39:25.830-06:00Catching upMom, my brother, my niece, and I spent the week between Christmas and New Year's in San Antonio, at my sister's. I got to see my family and a few friends, and ate quite a lot of Tex-Mex. (Yes, we have Mexican restaurants in Iowa City. Some of the owners are even Mexican-American. No, it's not the same.)

Yarn: Brooklyn Tweed LOFT, in Postcard
This was a quick and easy knit, although when I finished, I realized my cast-on (the scalloped edge at the top of this photo) was a little tight. The yarn is the new fingering-weight from Jared Flood/Brooklyn Tweed. Although I am knitting along on my second Entangled Stitches glove and Pei cowl, my yarn stash is, as usual, growing faster than my FOs!
About a week and a half ago, I saw (on Ravelry) the prototype for Boo Knits' Fragile Hearts, and knew that, not only did I need to knit it, but that I needed to knit it in the same yarn -- DyeForYarn's jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-78466557821374932192011-11-07T22:02:00.000-06:002011-11-07T22:02:40.391-06:00Well, hello there! If I have any followers left -- I had a very busy October and am just now recovering from it!
Mostly, it was "work busy," since I was at two conferences. There was knitting at both, but the second, in Baton Rouge, was best, at least in part because I got to see Steven!
I was working on a sock while I was there -- the Lenore socks I talked about in my last, long-ago post. I will say that the KnitPicks Swish really bled in the wash -- the water of the first wash was as red as the yarn! I washed and rinsed it three times, and really should warn the recipients that it might still run a bit. However, I really like knitting with Swish and the washability makes it great for baby gifts.

FOs!To continue the saga of the dying computer -- well, it's dead. I am posting from my pretty new MacBook Pro. It's a bit heavier than the MacBook Air I had before (which was first-generation and taught me to avoid first-gen in the future) but I like it a lot -- and I won't have to keep editing the contents of my hard drive to keep it below the 80 gigs of my old MBA.
The big news, jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-2694694467890035432011-09-01T22:12:00.000-05:002011-09-01T22:12:15.337-05:00No pictures, and almost no computerI am SO close to finishing Catkin. I've changed the color combination a bit and added a few rows to make it a bit longer, but I only have five (very long) rows left to knit. I could show you a great picture, if I had one. Or, actually, some way to post a picture. You see, my three-and-a-half year old MacBook Air is dying. This is Samantha Alice! I had planned on calling her Alice, but her name at the shelter was Samantha, and she seems to recognize it, so for now, she has two names.
I brought her home a week ago. I knew I wanted a tuxedo cat who wasn't real young. S. Many of the natives were not happy but I loved it! I like hot weather, but the fact that I knew it would only be really hot for a week or so made it even better. This week is still plenty warm, but if I still lived in San Antonio, we'd think the weather this week was practically cool! Plus, you don't have to shovel the heat, jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-44738811571308717932011-06-28T21:31:00.001-05:002011-06-28T21:31:54.807-05:00I'm Back!I really didn't mean to be gone nearly so long! So here's a quick catch up:
I went with my Mom, brother, my almost-15-year-old niece and her almost-15-year-old friend for a few days in Memphis. We always camp, but our planned campground had flooding issues, so we ended up at a KOA where the tent sites don't have electricity. That won't do -- how would we all charge our phones? jannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684471131160867402noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20711651.post-12566762198381392982011-06-09T21:24:00.000-05:002011-06-09T21:24:18.593-05:00Swatched!I actually did the Catkin swatch exactly as directed. The result: my swatch is a teeny bit oversized, but going down a needle size would make it too tight. I'll just try to knit a bit more tightly. Except - not while I'm knitting the "catkin" -- the almost-circular section. I need to strand a bit more loosely there, to prevent the pucker
Colorwise -- I love this!
